2010 LA Triathlon

The 11th annual, Los Angeles Triathlon, was held October 3rd, 2010. The swim, run, bike even attracts thousands of competitors from around the world. The race has two distance profiles: Sprint (.4 mile swim, 14.1 mile bike and 3.1 mile run) and the Olympic (.9 mile swim, 24 mile bike and 6.2 mile run). The race begins with the swim at Venice beach; transitions to the bike that takes the athletes to downtown Los Angeles for the final leg; the run through the business district in downtown which finishes at LA Live.

Near mile 10, the leaders of the race are pictured speeding through, on their way to downtown Los Angeles. Two-time Olympian, Bevan Docherty of New Zealand, would go on to win the LA Triathlon with a time of 1:50:21. Defending champion Javier Gomez of Spain would place 2nd in the 2010 edition with a time of 1:50:34. American, Andrew Starykowicz would lead at the bike turn around point but would finish in 3rd with a time of 1:51:06.

In the women’s division Lisa Norden of Sweden would successfully defend her 2009 championship by posting a winning time of 1:59:40. Sara McLarty would place 2nd - after leading at the bicycle turn around point - with an overall time of 2:05:41. American Olympian Laura Bennett would place 3rd with a time of 2:07:57.
